Wasiu Akinwande, widely known as Olori Eso, has been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court on eleven serious charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms, to felony-related offences.
The suspect, believed to be one of the most wanted and vicious hired killers in recent Lagos history, was finally captured after a years-long manhunt. His arrest followed a covert operation codenamed “Silence, Speed, and Surprise”, executed by the Lagos State Police Tactical Squad at his secret hideout in Agbado, Ogun State. Prior to his arrest, Akinwande had reportedly been evading capture in Lagos suburbs such as Mushin.
Weapons and Ammunition Recovered
Authorities revealed a shocking arsenal recovered from Akinwande’s residence, including:
K2 Assault Rifle
Two AK‑47 Rifles
Locally‑made Pistols
A Poisonous Dagger
Multiple Magazines and Large Quantities of Ammunition
Walkie‑Talkies
Multiple International Passports
Investigators say the suspect admitted to using these weapons in his operations, reinforcing his reputation as a ruthless criminal figure.
Families Seek Justice
During the court proceedings, families of several victims, including those of the deceased, were in attendance to identify the suspect and demand justice. Their emotional presence underscored the gravity of the charges and the pain endured by those affected.
Ongoing Investigation
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner (SCID) to lead further investigations, aiming to track down and prosecute other members of the alleged criminal gang connected to Akinwande’s crimes.
The court has adjourned the case, with further hearings expected in the coming weeks as the investigation deepens.
