Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that his administration is equipping the youths of the state with leadership and technological skills to prepare them for future leadership roles in Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking at the 75th birthday celebration of elder statesman and former Chairman/CEO of Pfizer Products Plc, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, held at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Governor Otti disclosed that the state is currently running a government-funded leadership academy.
The academy targets young Abians between the ages of 16 and 20, training them in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and other modern technologies. He revealed that by the end of the current holiday period, at least 1,000 future leaders would have been trained.
“Our vision is that in a few years, if you are looking for leaders, you will have to come to Abia State. We are training future leaders in technology, artificial intelligence, robotics, and 3D printing,” Governor Otti said.
The governor also announced plans to establish an independent agency to manage and maintain public infrastructure projects, particularly in higher institutions across the state.
While celebrating Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, Governor Otti described him as a man of integrity and selfless service, deserving of recognition. He commended him for his lifelong contributions to Abia State and Nigeria.
Other speakers at the event included General Ike Nwachukwu (Rtd.), who praised both the celebrant and the governor’s infrastructural strides, as well as Barr. Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, who unveiled Ohuabunwa’s latest book: Driven by Revelation & Inspiration – My Journey through the 2023 Nigeria’s Presidential Aspiration and Matters Arising.
In his remarks, the celebrant, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, expressed gratitude to God and lauded Governor Otti for his leadership, describing Abia as “the safest state in Nigeria” under his watch.
The event was attended by prominent personalities, including Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi; the wife of the governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti; wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adaeze Emetu; Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Ifeanyi Osai; Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe and Austin Akobundu; Professor Pat Utomi; former Rivers State Governor, Sir Celestine Omehia; the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe; and the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Senator Azuta Mbata, among others.
