Widow Using Fake Pregnancy to Traffic Cocaine Arrested by NDLEA in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, who attempted to traffic cocaine by disguising as a heavily pregnant woman.

Ezewuike, a fashion designer and mother of one, was intercepted at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Lagos, on Friday, 22nd August 2025, with 1.3 kilograms of cocaine cleverly hidden under a fake pregnancy bump. Investigators said she intended to move the consignment to Abuja before she was caught.

A follow-up raid on her residence in Ago Palace Way, Okota, led to the recovery of 200 grams of cutting agents used in cocaine production. In her statement, the widow admitted that she “inherited” the illegal trade from her late husband who died two years ago, despite running a fashion business for over two decades.

The shocking discovery has drawn public attention because of the unusual method used to evade security checks. NDLEA officials described the case as a stark reminder of how drug cartels exploit personal tragedies and disguises to push their trade.

But Ezewuike’s arrest was only one highlight in a sweeping week-long operation.

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted 90 parcels of “Loud,” a strong cannabis strain imported from the U.S. and hidden inside three cartons of kitchen sinks.

In Abuja, two dispatch riders were arrested in Jabi while distributing illicit drugs, including skunk and injections.

In Kano, Adamawa, and Kogi, over 825,000 pills of opioids were recovered in multiple raids, while vehicles used for trafficking were also seized.

In Delta, Ondo, Edo, and Taraba states, more than 75,000 kilograms of skunk were destroyed in massive plantation operations carried out with support from security agencies.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers across the states for their commitment and urged them to remain vigilant. He stressed that the agency’s balanced strategy—combining enforcement with sensitization campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative—remains crucial in curbing substance abuse nationwide.

The widow’s bizarre cocaine-in-fake-pregnancy case, however, stands as the most dramatic arrest of the week, and a clear warning to traffickers that no disguise is too clever to escape the NDLEA’s dragnet.
