Niger North Senator and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Distinguished Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, has reinforced his commitment to agricultural development and food security with the distribution of 4,000 bags of fertilizer across the eight local government areas of his senatorial district.
At the official handover, 500 bags were provided to each local government, with Senator Bello urging farmers to position Niger North as the nation’s “Food Basket.” Speaking through his representative, former Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Alhaji Shehu Danyahya, the Senator commended farmers for their resilience and emphasized the critical role of agriculture in driving Nigeria’s economy.
“This fertilizer intervention is a deliberate step to support small-scale farmers and scale up food production. Our aim is clear: Niger North should lead in ensuring Nigeria’s food security,” he said.
The event was attended by the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, APC State Chairman Hon. Aminu Bobi, local government chairmen, traditional leaders, and other key stakeholders, all praising the initiative as timely and impactful.
Senator Bello highlighted that the program aligns with the Federal Government’s food security agenda and urged farmers to maximize the opportunity to boost productivity and embrace agricultural mechanization across the region.
