Lagos State is preparing to host its first-ever Waterfront Infrastructure Development Summit, bringing together over 500 international experts to tackle challenges facing the city’s waterways and explore sustainable urban waterfront solutions.
The announcement came from Hon. Dayo Bush Alebiosu, Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, during a press briefing at Ikeja. The summit, themed “Pressure on the Lagoon; The Lagos Experience”, is being described as a pivotal moment for waterfront planning, innovation, and investment both locally and globally.
Commissioner Alebiosu emphasized the growing importance of well-planned waterfronts. “As cities expand, waterfronts play a key role in economic development and enhancing urban life. This summit will unite global expertise to develop solutions that combine growth with environmental care,” he said.
The event will feature discussions on international best practices, successful projects, smart technologies, and sustainable strategies that benefit both the economy and the environment. It will also provide a platform for stakeholders—including government officials, urban planners, private sector leaders, and community representatives—to forge partnerships and collaborative projects.
Alebiosu highlighted the pressures on the Lagos Lagoon, caused by human activity and climate-related challenges, calling on stakeholders to support government initiatives aimed at protecting and rejuvenating the city’s waterways.
The summit will take place on Thursday, 11th September 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, starting from 9 a.m., promising a showcase of ideas and innovations that could set a global benchmark for waterfront development.
