Tensions have surfaced in Uyam community following a dispute over the custody of the Masev stamps, a traditional symbol of authority and land administration.
Rev. Sunday Akaazua, pastor of NKST Akaa-U, has come under scrutiny for retaining the Masev stamps that belonged to his late father, Zaki Akaazua Feghe, the former kindred head of Masev Uyam. Reports indicate that for more than three years following his father’s passing, Rev. Akaazua has refused to hand over the stamps to the current kindred head, Zaki Shiva Teryima.
Community sources allege that Rev. Akaazua has been using the stamps to endorse land documents and backdate transactions, functions reserved exclusively for the recognized kindred head.
In response to the situation, the District Head of Uyam, Chief Teryima Moses Toho, has directed the Feghe family head and tax collector, Zaki Mbavertir Feghe, to recover the Masev stamp within two weeks. Chief Toho warned that failure to comply would attract sanctions from the Uyam Council against the entire family.
The dispute has sparked widespread concern among residents, highlighting the need for adherence to traditional protocols in land administration and family leadership.
