Major Josiah, an army officer abducted in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, has been rescued from the dense forest of Tuomo community thanks to the quick action of a palm-wine tapper and local lumberers. The officer was kidnapped on Sunday night from his lodge by armed youths who ransacked his rooms before taking him to the creeks of Burutu Local Government Area.
According to sources within the community, Major Josiah was discovered in a canoe, his hands tied, sustaining gunshot wounds to his leg and hands. One source explained that a young girl, while checking her fishing net early Monday morning, spotted the officer sitting in a canoe in the distance. She immediately ran home to inform her father, who went to the scene, untied Major Josiah, and brought him to a nearby palm-wine camp. Lumberers in the area assisted by transporting him via canoe through the brook leading back to the community.
Another account confirmed that the army officer’s cries in the deep forest alerted local lumberers, who traced his location and provided immediate assistance. They ensured his safe return to the community before notifying the Bomadi Division of the military Joint Task Force (JTF), who took Major Josiah into custody for further medical attention and debriefing.
The incident highlights the crucial role local residents play in supporting security operations and rescuing victims of violent crimes in remote areas.
