The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced the suspension of its five-day warning strike, which began on September 12, 2025, following fresh assurances from the Federal Government to meet its demands.
The association stated that the decision came after the commencement of payment of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) to members who were previously owed. NARD’s Extraordinary National Executive Council (E-NEC), held virtually on September 13, resolved to suspend the strike action effective 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
According to the leadership, the suspension will give the government a two-week window to fully implement the commitments contained in the doctors’ earlier communiqué.
In addition, NARD urged the Oyo State Government to urgently comply with the 15-day ultimatum issued by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Oyo branch, over unresolved issues at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso. The doctors warned that failure to act could trigger a solidarity strike by all resident doctors in Oyo State.
The association also called on other state governments to swiftly address welfare challenges affecting medical workers, stressing that resident doctors in tertiary hospitals would be empowered to continue their industrial actions if local authorities fail to demonstrate genuine commitment.
NARD reaffirmed its resolve to work with government at all levels to ensure better healthcare delivery and improved welfare for medical professionals.
