The Akwa Ibom State Government has issued a declaration against two medical doctors accused of abandoning their official duty posts after benefiting from state-sponsored medical training for nearly eight years.
According to government sources, the doctors, who were sponsored through medical school and professional development under a state-funded programme, failed to return to serve in the health sector as required by the bond they signed with the state. Officials expressed concern that such actions undermine public investment in human capital development and negatively impact the healthcare system meant to benefit citizens.
The government stressed that huge resources were invested in training the doctors, with the expectation that they would contribute to strengthening the state’s health sector. Their sudden renunciation of duty is now being treated as a breach of public trust and contractual agreement.
Authorities confirmed that security agencies have been directed to ensure the doctors are located and brought to account for their actions. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to continue investing in manpower development but warned that it would not tolerate acts of betrayal of such trust in the future.
