Yobe State has been selected as the first state in Nigeria to pilot the National Mass Fatality Response Plan with a full-scale Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Simulation Exercise scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2025, in Damaturu.

The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) today convened a high-level planning session with representatives from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), key ministries, departments and agencies—including Health, YEMABUS, Environment, GSASH, and YOSEPA—as well as civil society organizations. The meeting focused on finalizing roles, mobilizing resources, and enhancing coordination strategies ahead of the exercise.

The simulation is designed to test and strengthen Yobe State’s emergency preparedness by replicating a large-scale incident requiring multi-agency coordination, rapid medical response, humanitarian support, and efficient resource deployment.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Goje commended the swift collaboration of all stakeholders, describing the exercise as a milestone in building resilient and accountable disaster response systems for both Yobe State and Nigeria at large.
