The General Manager of NTA Channel 5, Mrs. Fakeye Olukemi, has reaffirmed the station’s commitment to providing a robust platform for the sustained coverage of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), FCT’s activities, aimed at promoting voter education and enlightened participation of Nigerians.

Mrs. Fakeye made this pledge on Friday, September 19, 2025, when she led the management team of NTA Channel 5 on a courtesy visit to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), INEC FCT, Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris, at the Commission’s FCT office.

She described NTA Channel 5 as a vital gateway to the wider NTA network, offering extensive reach for news dissemination across Abuja, its environs, and beyond. According to her, the station’s multiple local language programmes designed for grassroots sensitization, coupled with its expertise and manpower, position it strategically to provide comprehensive media coverage of INEC’s electoral activities—especially in the build-up to the Area Council Elections in the FCT.

The GM assured the REC that the station would sustain engagement by extending visits to him and other key INEC officials for interviews on special programmes, thereby enhancing voter education and awareness. She also expressed optimism for a mutually beneficial partnership to amplify INEC’s messages to the electorate.

In his response, Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris commended NTA Channel 5 for its longstanding support and cordial working relationship with INEC FCT. He pledged continued collaboration with the station to ensure media visibility for the Commission’s programmes, particularly with the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and the Area Council Elections. He further highlighted the indispensable role of the media in deepening Nigeria’s democracy, noting that INEC has historically benefitted from strong media partnerships.

The visit featured the exchange of gifts and group photographs. Present at the meeting were the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, and other senior officials of INEC FCT.
