The Electoral Institute (TEI), the research and training arm of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has held a methodology workshop to prepare field agents and supervisors for the deployment of the Election Violence Mitigation and Advocacy Tool (EVMAT) ahead of the Anambra Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
EVMAT, developed by INEC, is a strategic tool designed to identify electoral flashpoints and guide interventions that help prevent violence before, during, and after elections.
Speaking at the workshop, Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, Chairman of the Board of The Electoral Institute, expressed concern over the growing trend of electoral violence and urged both moral and technical vigilance. He emphasized that election workers and voters alike must uphold the integrity of the process, ensuring it is free from intimidation and violence, while giving special consideration to the frail, vulnerable, and physically challenged voters to ensure every valid vote counts.
Also addressing participants, Prof. Ibrahim Sani, Acting Director-General of TEI, described EVMAT as both a research-driven and life-saving tool, stressing its effectiveness in gauging public mood and pinpointing potential flashpoints. He urged participants to take the training seriously, describing their role as crucial in safeguarding lives and protecting democratic values.
Representing the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Anambra State, Mr. Akuma A., Head of Department, General Administration and Procurement, reiterated the REC’s commitment to delivering a violence-free, credible, and transparent governorship election. He emphasized that peace remains central to the success of the forthcoming polls.
The workshop marks a significant step in INEC’s broader preparations to guarantee peaceful, credible, and inclusive elections in Anambra State.STONEREPORTERS NEWSROOM 📝
