With the Anambra Governorship Election drawing near, the Anambra State Police Command has intensified preparations to ensure a peaceful and credible poll. Acting on the directive of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), the Command convened a high-level Situation Room meeting on October 22, 2025, at its headquarters in Awka.
The meeting, chaired by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, and represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Ezekiel, brought together heads and representatives of key security agencies operating in the state. The session provided a platform for strategic review, coordination, and reinforcement of inter-agency collaboration ahead of the November 8 election.
During his address, DCP Ezekiel reaffirmed the Police Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the polls. He stressed that safeguarding the electoral process demands unity, professionalism, and neutrality from all security operatives, emphasizing that credible elections can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and cooperation.
Representatives from the Nigerian Army, DSS, NSCDC, FRSC, NDLEA, NIS, Fire Service, and Correctional Service reaffirmed their readiness to work collectively under the ICCES framework. They assured the public of their joint resolve to protect voters and ensure a secure environment throughout the election period.
A Situation Room has been established at the Command Headquarters to function as the central hub for real-time intelligence monitoring, rapid coordination, and immediate response to any security concerns during the exercise.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its appeal to residents and political actors to maintain calm and abide by electoral laws, assuring that every measure is being taken to guarantee a peaceful and credible election process.
