The Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers has expressed firm support for Governor Alex Chioma Otti, commending his leadership and achievements since assuming office. The endorsement came after an emergency meeting held at the council’s state secretariat in Umuahia, where the royal fathers unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the governor’s administration.

In a statement jointly signed by the council’s principal officers and read by the Chairman, Eze Sir Linus Nto Mbah, the monarchs praised Governor Otti for what they described as his exceptional commitment to infrastructure renewal, education reform, and the welfare of Abia citizens. Eze Mbah noted that within two years, the governor had revived several abandoned health facilities, renovated major roads across the three senatorial zones, and improved public education by recruiting thousands of teachers and making basic education free and compulsory.

The council also applauded the administration’s strides in enhancing security, improving workers’ welfare, and addressing pension arrears, describing these as unprecedented in the state’s recent history. Eze Mbah said the achievements stand as proof that the governor is prudently utilizing the state’s statutory allocations for the benefit of the people.

However, the traditional rulers also expressed concern over the rising tension between Governor Otti and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu. The council urged both leaders, whom they described as “sons of Abia,” to avoid inflammatory remarks that could escalate political division in the state.

Eze Mbah cautioned the Deputy Speaker against making unverified public statements and warned politicians to refrain from inciting the public or engaging in premature political battles ahead of the 2027 elections. He emphasized that Abia has remained a peaceful state and should not be drawn into avoidable crises fueled by political rivalry or personal ambition.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace and stability in Abia, urging all political actors to prioritize the collective good of the state over personal interests.
