The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has directed the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ushafa Division following a viral video showing the officer slapping a young man. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, sparked outrage across social media, prompting swift action from the police leadership.
CP Dantawaye condemned the officer’s behavior, describing it as unprofessional and inconsistent with the standards of discipline and civility expected within the Nigeria Police Force. He stressed that such conduct undermines public trust and will not be tolerated under his command. The police chief confirmed that a formal investigation has been launched, and disciplinary measures are already underway to ensure accountability.
The Commissioner further reminded all Divisional Police Officers and their subordinates of the importance of professionalism, restraint, and respect for human rights while on duty. He warned that any officer found engaging in misconduct or abuse of power would face strict sanctions in line with police regulations.
While calling on the public to remain law-abiding and respectful in their interactions with security personnel, CP Dantawaye emphasized that mutual respect and cooperation between the police and residents are vital for maintaining peace and effective community policing in the FCT.
FCT residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities or complaints through the Command’s emergency numbers: 08061581938, 08032003913, or via the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) line at 08107314192.
