In a renewed push to deepen diplomatic relations and strengthen continental cooperation, Nigeria and South Africa held a high-level Political Consultation Meeting on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. The meeting, which took place under an atmosphere of mutual respect and partnership, was co-chaired by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and South Africa’s Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Her Excellency Thandi Moraka.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, security, and economic collaboration across Africa. A key highlight of the meeting was the signing of a landmark agreement establishing an Early Warning Mechanism designed to enhance intelligence sharing and prevent potential conflicts between the two nations. The session also concluded with the signing of a Joint Communique, signaling a shared vision for stronger bilateral cooperation.
According to diplomatic sources, the consultation underscored the importance of partnership between Africa’s two largest economies in addressing common challenges such as regional instability, trade expansion, and youth empowerment. Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu emphasized Nigeria’s dedication to fostering African unity through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Both delegations expressed optimism that this new phase of engagement will open doors to broader collaboration, paving the way for a more stable and prosperous African continent.
