The Federal Government has issued a strong warning to public servants and Nigerian youths against engaging in illegal migration and human trafficking, urging them to seek legitimate opportunities within the country rather than endangering their lives abroad.

The caution came amid growing concerns over the increasing number of Nigerians falling victim to deceptive overseas job offers and human trafficking networks operating across borders.

Government officials emphasized that Nigeria has vast opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and professional growth — particularly through various empowerment and skills acquisition programmes being implemented nationwide.

“Our youth must understand that the so-called greener pastures abroad often come with exploitation and loss of dignity,” a senior government source noted. “The government is creating safer, sustainable pathways to prosperity right here at home.”

The statement further appealed to civil servants to uphold the nation’s image by avoiding participation in or facilitation of irregular migration channels, stressing that such acts contravene the nation’s anti-trafficking laws and international obligations.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to combating human trafficking, strengthening border security, and supporting the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in its ongoing efforts to dismantle trafficking networks.

Citizens were also encouraged to report suspicious recruitment agencies or illegal migration schemes to the authorities for swift investigation and prosecution.

“We must work together to protect our youth from exploitation,” the government statement added. “Every Nigerian life is valuable, and our collective future depends on safe, legal, and productive mobility.”
