The death toll from Friday night’s brutal bandit attack in Damakasuwa, a community in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has climbed to five, following the deaths of two more victims from their injuries.
Local sources confirmed on Sunday that the latest casualties, identified as Habu Ya’u and Yohanna Adamu, succumbed to severe gunshot wounds while receiving treatment at separate hospitals — one in Saminaka, Kaduna State, and another in Plateau State.
The attack, which witnesses described as a coordinated assault, saw heavily armed bandits riding motorcycles storm the community, firing indiscriminately and attacking residents without provocation.
“As of now, five people have been confirmed dead, including minors, and we have recovered their bodies,” a local resident said.
Several others remain in critical condition, raising concerns over the continued spate of violence in Southern Kaduna.
In a related incident earlier on Friday morning, terrorists abducted several traders along the Birnin Gwari–Tabani axis of Kaduna State. The traders, travelling in a Golf vehicle to the Layin Danauta weekly market, were ambushed at Kwanan Danwandara in Tabani Ward, with all passengers and the driver taken hostage.
Eyewitnesses said two motorcyclists passing through the area were also abducted. The victims were reportedly taken into the surrounding forest, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
The traders were said to be from Dandume in Katsina State, while the kidnapped motorcyclists were residents of Kuyello Ward in Birnin Gwari.
Kaduna State has continued to suffer relentless attacks from armed bandits and terrorists, with communities in both southern and central zones repeatedly targeted. Residents have appealed for urgent government and military intervention to stem the growing wave of insecurity that has claimed countless lives in the state.
