Nigeria has warmly welcomed delegates from across West Africa to the Second Meeting of the West African Digital Governance Forum, a regional platform committed to shaping the continent’s shared digital future through innovation, collaboration, and policy integration.

Delivering the opening remarks, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, set the tone for the two-day dialogue by emphasizing that “digital today is a lifestyle, and to make our governments digital, we must design it intentionally.”

He stressed that true digital transformation extends beyond technology, noting that it is about “using innovation to deliver quality public services, build trust, and create delightful experiences for citizens.”

The forum — attended by government representatives, digital experts, and private sector stakeholders — explored critical topics including cross-border digital services, data sovereignty, cybersecurity, and human capital development.

Kashifu Inuwa urged African nations to work collectively in building “digital bridges” that enable seamless service exchange, strengthen regional cooperation, and empower citizens through inclusive digital access.

Citing Nigeria’s progress in digital innovation, the DG highlighted flagship initiatives such as the National Digital Literacy Framework, the 3 Million Tech Talent (3MTT) Programme, and the integration of digital literacy into formal education as proof that sustainable transformation is possible when guided by vision and collaboration.

As the forum continues into its second day, participants echoed a shared message of unity: Africa’s digital destiny lies in African hands. Through partnership, policy alignment, and investment in digital skills, West Africa aims to position itself as a hub for innovation and inclusive governance in the digital age.
