The Anambra State Police Command has announced the resumption of CP Abayomi Shogunle, PhD, fsi, as the Commissioner of Police, ahead of the Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025. The posting is part of the policing operational strategy approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, aimed at ensuring a peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral process in the state.
Upon assuming duty, CP Shogunle activated the IGP’s Enforcement Protocol for anti-electoral offences, emphasizing zero tolerance for ballot snatching, vote-buying, political thuggery, and voter intimidation. He also strengthened the Electoral Offences Desk to monitor social media and online platforms for cyber-related election crimes, ensuring prompt investigation and prosecution.
A central command framework has been put in place for real-time intelligence sharing, coordination, and rapid response, with over 60,000 security personnel from agencies within the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) deployed to secure 5,720 polling units, along with tactical reserves along inter-LGA and state boundaries and designated collation centers.
The CP reiterated a total ban on vigilante groups, including Agunechemba, stating that only Federal Government security agencies are authorized to provide election security. He also prohibited VIP movements with armed escorts at polling or collation centers, warning that violators would face apprehension, withdrawal of escorts, and prosecution. Only INEC officials, accredited observers, and journalists are allowed to move freely between designated areas.
CP Shogunle called on political actors, community leaders, and the electorate to support the police and other security agencies to maintain peace before, during, and after the election.
For further inquiries, the Commissioner of Police can be reached at 0809-600-0079, according to SP Ikenga Tochukwu, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command.
