Lagos-born long-distance runner, Aminat Adenike Alabi, has emerged winner of the Open Category in the 10th edition of the 2025 Lagos Women Run, marking a historic moment as the first Lagos marathoner to claim the coveted title.

Alabi clinched victory with an impressive time of 39 minutes, 25.80 seconds, completing the 10-kilometre race from Tafawa Balewa Square to the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena, Onikan, and earning the ₦2 million grand prize.

Speaking at the medal presentation, Lekan Fatodu, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, hailed the race as “a decade of consistency, community, and impact,” noting that it embodies Lagos’ commitment to nurturing talent, promoting wellness, and driving economic opportunities through sports.

Coordinator of the event, Tayo Popoola, described the Women Run as “a platform for women to connect, network, and find happiness through fitness,” emphasizing its inclusivity and role in empowering women across all age groups.

An elated Alabi dedicated her victory to Lagos, saying her determination, training, and belief propelled her to break the northern runners’ dominance. “I wanted to be the first Lagos marathoner to set a record and bring the title home,” she said.

Vivian Obadiah and Elizabeth Nuhu Power finished second and third, winning ₦1.5 million and ₦1 million, respectively.
