The Zamfara Concerned Citizens Forum (ZCCF) has raised serious allegations of financial mismanagement against Governor Dauda Lawal Dare, claiming that ₦44 billion meant for road construction across Gusau metropolis has been misappropriated.
According to the group, the projects — including the dualization and rehabilitation of key roads — were executed at an average cost of ₦2.4 billion per kilometer, far exceeding similar federal and state road projects across Nigeria. The ZCCF argues that the inflated costs have no justification, as the roads lack underpasses, culverts, and compensation for affected residents or businesses.
“This is not just inflation of figures; it is a direct assault on the collective intelligence and future of Zamfara people. What Governor Dauda Lawal Dare has done is not development — it is open looting dressed in the language of progress,” said ZCCF Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim Marafa.
The forum highlighted that the projects were originally budgeted at ₦14 billion in the 2025 state budget, but the cost was increased by ₦26 billion without explanation, sparking public outrage over alleged corruption and recklessness.
ZCCF is now calling on anti-corruption agencies, including the EFCC and ICPC, as well as the Presidency, to investigate the matter urgently to prevent further misappropriation of public funds and protect the future of Zamfara residents.
