The Ondo State Police Command has announced the deployment of personnel and operational assets to all Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Computer-Based Test centres across the state ahead of the commencement of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, as part of efforts to ensure a secure and orderly examination environment.

The deployment, which covers all designated CBT centres in Ondo State, is designed to safeguard candidates, examination officials, and examination facilities, while maintaining public order throughout the examination period in line with national security directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police.

According to the Command, the security arrangement involves strategic deployment of officers to control access points, manage crowds, regulate traffic flow around examination venues, and respond swiftly to any emerging security concerns that may arise during the conduct of the examinations.

Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical response teams have been directed to intensify patrols and surveillance across their areas of responsibility to ensure comprehensive coverage and effective coordination during the examination period.

The police command also reassured candidates, parents, and guardians of adequate protection, urging all participants to comply with examination rules, maintain order at centres, and cooperate fully with security personnel deployed for the exercise.

It further advised parents and guardians to avoid overcrowding at examination venues and to adhere strictly to security guidelines in order to ensure smooth and uninterrupted conduct of the examination process across the state.

The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across Ondo State and called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Computer-Based Test is a critical gateway examination for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria, typically involving large numbers of candidates across multiple centres nationwide, requiring coordinated logistical and security planning to ensure fairness and credibility of the process.

Since its introduction, the computer-based testing system has been widely adopted by JAMB to reduce examination malpractice and improve efficiency, though it has also required enhanced security presence at examination centres to manage crowd control, protect infrastructure, and support smooth technological operations.

In Ondo State, authorities have emphasized preparedness across all participating centres, with police units trained to coordinate with examination officials and ICT personnel to ensure that both security and technical aspects of the exercise proceed without disruption.

The deployment aligns with nationwide directives from the Inspector-General of Police mandating all state commands to provide visible and proactive security coverage at examination centres during the JAMB exercise period, particularly to deter criminal interference and maintain public confidence.

Security arrangements also include traffic management around busy urban centres such as Akure, Ondo, and Owo where examination centres are located, with officers expected to ease vehicular movement, prevent congestion, and ensure that candidates can access venues on time.

Members of the public have been advised to avoid unnecessary gatherings near examination centres and to comply with instructions issued by security personnel, as part of broader efforts to maintain order and prevent disruptions during the examination period.

The Command noted that part of its strategy is to prevent examination malpractice, including impersonation and other forms of academic dishonesty, by ensuring strict access control and constant monitoring of all designated centres.

Police authorities also confirmed ongoing collaboration with JAMB officials and examination supervisors to ensure that operational guidelines are fully observed and that any incidents are promptly addressed in real time.

In recent years, examination bodies in Nigeria have increasingly relied on coordinated security frameworks to protect the integrity of national assessments, particularly as large-scale computer-based examinations have become more common across public and private testing environments.

The Ondo State Police Command has in previous statements emphasized officer training, discipline, and inter-agency cooperation as key components of its operational readiness for public events, including examinations, elections, and large gatherings.

Authorities say the measures are intended to reinforce public confidence in the safety of examination processes and to ensure that academic activities proceed without disruption across the state.

The Computer-Based Test format also places emphasis on stable technological infrastructure, including functional computer systems, reliable power supply, and secure examination software, all of which require coordination between JAMB accredited centres and relevant technical partners.

While examination exercises are generally conducted in an orderly manner, authorities continue to prioritize preventive security measures to address potential risks such as overcrowding, unauthorized access, and operational disruptions at examination venues.

Community cooperation is also considered essential, with parents, guardians, and local residents encouraged to support security efforts by adhering to guidelines, avoiding obstruction, and ensuring timely movement of candidates to their respective centres.

The Ondo State Police Command reiterated that its operational posture remains adaptive and responsive, with continuous monitoring of developments throughout the examination period to ensure that any emerging issues are swiftly addressed in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders involved in the conduct of the examination.

Education stakeholders have consistently emphasized the importance of secure examination environments in safeguarding the aspirations of millions of young Nigerians who depend on standardized assessments as a pathway to higher education and future career opportunities.

JAMB has over the years strengthened its examination processes through biometric verification and other identity management systems aimed at reducing impersonation and ensuring that only eligible candidates participate in the exercise.

With the 2026 examination period now underway, the Ondo State Police Command maintains that all necessary measures are in place to support a safe, orderly, and credible conduct of the exercise across accredited centres in the state.

The Command further stressed the importance of synergy among security agencies, examination authorities, school administrators, and community leaders, noting that collective responsibility remains central to sustaining the integrity and smooth conduct of national examinations. It added that proactive communication channels have been activated to ensure rapid response to any incident, while encouraging the public to continue cooperating with security personnel deployed for the exercise across all local government areas in the state as well as sustaining public confidence in the process going forward across Ondo State Nigeria wide.
