The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers during separate operations in different parts of the state, recovering a locally made firearm, live cartridges, and several daggers believed to have been used in criminal activities. The arrests were carried out as part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crime and improve security across Delta communities.
The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Okoro (28) and Chinedu Eze (31), were arrested on Friday, May 29, 2026, by operatives attached to the Special Anti-Crime Squad (SACS) following credible intelligence reports about their alleged involvement in a series of armed robbery operations in Asaba and its environs.
Police sources said the first suspect was apprehended during a surveillance operation in the Okpanam area of Asaba, while the second was arrested shortly after in a follow-up operation linked to the same criminal network. Officers reportedly recovered a locally fabricated pistol, several live cartridges and sharp weapons suspected to have been used in violent robberies targeting residents and motorists.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Asaba on May 29, 2026. He said the command acted on intelligence reports and deployed tactical teams that successfully tracked and arrested the suspects without resistance.
According to Edafe, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were part of a robbery gang responsible for attacks on unsuspecting residents, particularly along isolated routes and residential areas during late hours. He added that efforts were ongoing to track other members of the gang who are currently at large.
“The suspects were arrested in separate but coordinated operations. Items recovered include a locally made pistol, live cartridges and dangerous weapons. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to arrest other members of the syndicate,” the statement said.
The police spokesperson also urged residents of Delta State to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely intelligence that could assist security agencies in combating crime. He assured the public that the Command remains committed to sustaining pressure on criminal elements operating within the state.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reportedly commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism. He reiterated the Command’s resolve to rid the state of armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes through intelligence-led policing.
Security operations have been intensified across Delta State in recent months following increased reports of armed robbery and kidnapping along major highways and urban centres. Authorities say coordinated raids and surveillance operations have led to multiple arrests and recoveries of illegal firearms.
As of Saturday, May 30, 2026, police said the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations. The Command further warned criminal groups to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
