Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a 31-year-old man suspected of supplying logistics to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) after intercepting him with a large consignment of pharmaceutical drugs allegedly destined for Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, according to intelligence sources and security analyst Zagazola Makama. The suspect, identified as Mohammed Goni, was arrested at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Friday, 10 July 2026, during a routine security screening conducted by intelligence personnel of the 18 Battalion deployed at the Molai Main Entrance Gate on the outskirts of Maiduguri.

The suspect was travelling in a vehicle heading towards Damboa when troops subjected the vehicle to a routine search, which led to the discovery of a large quantity of assorted pharmaceutical drugs in his possession. According to security sources, Goni was unable to produce any valid clearance or documentation authorising the movement of the medical supplies into the conflict-prone area. "The circumstances surrounding the movement of the drugs raised suspicion, prompting the troops to immediately detain the suspect for further interrogation," one of the sources said.

Military sources disclosed that the suspect has since been handed over to the Military Intelligence Brigade for detailed investigation to determine the source of the drugs, their intended destination, and any possible links to ISWAP's logistics network operating within the North-East. Security sources noted that terrorist groups have increasingly relied on clandestine supply chains to procure pharmaceutical products and other essential materials used to treat wounded fighters and sustain their operations in remote camps. The interception of this consignment is seen as a significant blow to the logistical capabilities of the terrorist group, which has been under sustained military pressure in recent months.

The arrest forms part of ongoing intelligence-led efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to dismantle terrorist logistics networks by intercepting critical supplies before they reach insurgent enclaves. The military has intensified its campaign to disrupt the supply chains that keep militant groups functioning across the region, with troops targeting the movement of essential materials such as food, fuel, and medical supplies that are vital to the survival of terrorist elements operating in the Lake Chad region and surrounding areas. The arrest of Mohammed Goni follows a series of similar interceptions, including the recent arrest of a suspected foreign terrorist drug courier who was conveying illicit drugs and alcoholic beverages believed to be destined for terrorist groups operating around the Lake Chad Islands.

Investigations are ongoing, and military authorities have assured the public that they will continue to sustain the momentum of intelligence-led operations to ensure that terrorists are denied access to the logistics and supplies they need to carry out their activities. The Military Intelligence Brigade is expected to conduct a thorough interrogation of the suspect to establish the full extent of his network and identify other individuals involved in the supply chain. The arrest has been hailed as a significant achievement in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in the North-East, as it further weakens ISWAP's ability to sustain its operations and treat its wounded fighters. Operation HADIN KAI remains committed to sustaining aggressive offensive operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure the protection of lives and property across the North-East.
