The Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered the remand of two siblings and a third suspect at the Suleja Correctional Centre over the alleged murder of their father, Adimike Godwin, who was found dead with multiple stab wounds at his residence in the Guzape area of Abuja. The defendants—Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade—were arraigned before the court on Monday, 13 July 2026, on a four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide, culpable homicide and offences under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
The case began on 15 May 2026, when officers at the Guzape Divisional Headquarters received a distress call from a relative of the deceased who reported being unable to reach him. Police detectives promptly responded to the scene and found Adimike Godwin lying unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds. He was immediately rushed to Karu General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty. The FCT Police Command said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered a comprehensive investigation into the killing, which initially led to the arrest of five suspects, including the deceased's driver and gateman. However, after investigations were concluded, only Anthony, Stephany and Ajibade were charged before the court.
Police said all three defendants were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and culpable homicide over the death of Adimike Godwin. In addition, the police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said Anthony was separately charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, while Stephany and Ajibade were jointly charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, contrary to the provisions of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act. According to Adeh, the court adjourned the matter to 30 September 2026, for further proceedings and ordered that the three defendants be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending the hearing. The police spokesperson assured residents that the command would continue to pursue justice for victims of crime while upholding the constitutional rights of all persons throughout the judicial process.
