Troops of the Nigerian Army's 12 Brigade, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services, have arrested four persons suspected of collaborating with terrorist groups in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State. The suspects were apprehended at approximately 12:11 p.m. on July 12, 2026, during a coordinated joint operation at Light Hotel along the Odumo–Kabba Road. The operation was carried out following actionable intelligence linking the suspects to activities associated with terrorist elements operating within and around the area. The raid, executed by troops stationed at the Kabba Patrol Base working alongside DSS operatives, resulted in the successful apprehension of all four suspects without incident.
Security sources confirmed that the suspects were immediately handed over to the Department of State Services, which has taken custody of them for further investigation and possible prosecution. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle terrorist support networks, deny criminal groups local collaborators, and strengthen security across Kogi State and neighbouring communities. Security officials said intelligence-driven operations would continue as part of broader measures aimed at preventing the infiltration of terrorist elements and improving safety in the North Central region.
The arrest comes amid intensified security operations in Kogi State, where troops have been putting increasing pressure on terrorist camps and criminal enclaves. Just days earlier, a joint security operation led to the recovery of 249 rustled cattle from a suspected terrorist hideout in the same Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area. The Nigerian Army's 12 Brigade has also been actively involved in other counter-terrorism efforts, including the rescue of kidnapped victims and the interception of ammunition couriers in the region. Authorities have assured residents of their continued commitment to combating insecurity and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information to security agencies.
The suspects' alleged roles as collaborators highlight the critical importance of dismantling support networks that enable terrorist operations. By targeting individuals who provide logistical, financial, or intelligence support to terrorist groups, security forces aim to disrupt the enabling environment that allows extremism to thrive. The operation at Light Hotel demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in identifying and neutralising threats before they can materialise into large-scale attacks. As security agencies continue to intensify their efforts across the North Central region, the arrest of these four suspects represents a significant step in the ongoing campaign to restore lasting peace and security to Kogi State and its environs.
