Troops of Forward Operating Base Bakori and operatives of the Nigeria Police Force successfully intercepted a group of armed bandits during a fighting patrol in Unguwar Dutse community, Yan-Kwani Ward of Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State, forcing the criminals to abandon a large herd of rustled livestock and flee empty-handed into the bush. The operation, which took place on the night of July 14, 2026, was launched following actio jnable intelligence that bandits were operating in the area. Upon making contact with the armed group, a fierce firefight broke out, but the superior firepower of the combined security team proved decisive, compelling the bandits to retreat and abandon their loot.

According to security sources, the recovered livestock comprised four cows and 52 sheep, all believed to have been rustled from surrounding communities in the Bakori axis. Following the successful operation, the recovered animals were handed over to local authorities for identification and eventual return to their rightful owners. The intervention prevented what could have been a significant economic blow to the affected families, who depend largely on livestock for their livelihoods. The operation has been hailed as another timely intervention that prevented bandits from making away with stolen livestock, dealing a major blow to criminal networks operating in the North-West region.

The joint operation underscores the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led security patrols and inter-agency collaboration in the fight against banditry and cattle rustling in Katsina State. The military and police have continued to intensify operations across flashpoint areas, particularly in Bakori, Faskari, and Charanchi local government areas, where bandits have historically launched attacks and rustled livestock. The success in Unguwar Dutse adds to a growing list of recent victories, including a similar operation just days earlier in Charanchi LGA, where security forces recovered 117 rustled livestock after a fierce gun battle.

Residents of the Yan-Kwani Ward have praised the security forces for their swift response and professionalism, with many expressing relief that the bandits were prevented from carrying out their mission. The recovery of the livestock has brought a measure of hope to local families who had resigned themselves to losing their animals to the persistent menace of rustling. The Katsina State Police Command and military authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining the momentum of such operations, with aggressive tactical patrols ongoing across the state to deny bandits freedom of movement and protect the lives and livelihoods of rural communities.

The successful intervention in Unguwar Dutse comes amid heightened security concerns across Katsina State, where bandits have continued to terrorise communities through attacks, abductions, and cattle rustling. Authorities have appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, as community cooperation remains a critical component of the counter-banditry strategy. As troops maintain pressure on the fleeing bandits, the recovered livestock will be returned to their owners, offering a small but significant victory in the ongoing battle to restore peace and security to Nigeria's North-West.
