Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have intensified their offensive against terrorist networks in Borno State, apprehending multiple suspected informants and logistics suppliers while also destroying improvised explosive devices and receiving the surrender of a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province member, in a coordinated crackdown across the state. According to operational reports made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday, troops of the 195 Battalion, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, arrested a suspected ISWAP/JAS informant in Dusuman Ward, Mafa Local Government Area, following an intelligence-led operation. Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly met with terrorists at Labe village to provide intelligence on troop movements and activities, a role that has proven critical to sustaining insurgent operations in the region.
In a separate operation, troops of the 73 Battalion arrested a suspected ISWAP member in Konduga Local Government Area after he voluntarily surrendered to the military. The suspect reportedly confessed to participating in three attacks on Delwa and claimed he dumped his AK-47 rifle in a river before surrendering. Items recovered from him included a bicycle, a cutlass, bicycle repair tools and N6,500 in cash. The voluntary surrender of an active terrorist operative signals a potential shift in morale among insurgent ranks, even as troops maintain sustained offensive operations across the North-East.
Further demonstrating the military's resolve to dismantle terrorist support networks, troops of the 149 Battalion and the Civilian Joint Task Force arrested another suspected terrorist informant in Gubio Local Government Area. The suspect allegedly confessed to leading the June 16 terrorist infiltration of Gubio, during which a CJTF member was killed. The arrest of informants who facilitate attacks remains a key priority for the military, as these individuals provide critical intelligence that enables insurgents to plan and execute deadly operations against military positions and civilian communities.
In Damboa Local Government Area, troops of the 19 Battalion and 25 Brigade Garrison intercepted suspected terrorist logistics suppliers near Road Kauji. The suspects fled on sighting the troops, abandoning two bicycles, cartons of energy drinks, milk, soft drinks, veterinary medicines and a canopy. The recovery of these items, which are often used to sustain insurgent fighters operating in remote areas, highlights the military's success in disrupting the supply chains that keep terrorist groups operational. Meanwhile, troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade discovered and safely detonated an improvised explosive device planted by terrorists in a farming area around Dagari in the Sambisa Forest, Bama Local Government Area, preventing what could have been a deadly attack on civilians or military personnel.
In a related development, troops of Operation HADIN KAI arrested a suspected foreign spy during a follow-up operation in Abadam Local Government Area, days after they foiled an attempted terrorist infiltration on a military position in the area. Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed that troops of the 68 Battalion made the arrest during exploitation operations in Mallam Fatori on July 13, following an intensified security sweep launched after terrorists attempted to infiltrate the 19 Brigade position at Cross Kauwa on July 11 but were repelled by troops. The suspect, identified as Abubakar Mohammed Zen, claimed to be a citizen of the Republic of Niger and reportedly told investigators that he had travelled from Duguri in Abadam Local Government Area. Items recovered from him included a mobile phone, Airtel recharge cards, a horse and N500 in cash.
Military sources quoted by Zagazola Makama said the suspect is currently in custody and is being interrogated to verify his identity, trace his movements and determine whether he has any links to terrorist groups operating around the Lake Chad region. The arrest of a suspected foreign spy underscores the cross-border nature of the insurgency and the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism in the Lake Chad basin. The arrest forms part of ongoing exploitation operations by Operation HADIN KAI aimed at identifying suspected terrorist collaborators, informants and members of support networks following the failed infiltration attempt on military positions in the area.
The military has described the operations as part of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist support networks, deny insurgents freedom of movement and improve security across the North-East. By targeting informants, collaborators and logistics facilitators operating within communities, Operation HADIN KAI aims to cut off the intelligence and supply chains that sustain terrorist groups, making it increasingly difficult for them to plan and execute attacks. The voluntary surrender of a suspected ISWAP member and the arrest of multiple informants reflect the military's growing success in degrading the operational capabilities of terrorist groups in the region.
Despite these successes, the general security situation across the theatre remains unpredictable, with troops maintaining a high level of operational readiness and sustained offensive momentum. The military has urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies, as community cooperation remains critical to the success of counter-terrorism operations. As troops maintain pressure on terrorist networks across Borno State, the military's commitment to dismantling support structures and enhancing security across the North-East remains unwavering, with the ultimate goal of restoring lasting peace and stability to the region.
