Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a local government director in Kebbi State, abducted his wife, and taken a community teacher and several other residents in a brazen attack on the Low Cost Estate in Yauri Local Government Area. The assailants struck on the night of Thursday, July 16, 2026, storming the home of Alhaji Nasiru Muhammed, the Director of Personnel Management of Ngaski Local Government Area. According to a source close to the community, the marauders arrived on motorcycles, shooting sporadically. A group of the attackers went straight to the director's residence, shot him dead, and took his wife away. Meanwhile, other members of the gang abducted additional residents, including a teacher identified as Maryam, before retreating into the forest.

As of the time of reporting, the whereabouts of the abducted victims remain unknown. The attack has sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents reportedly abandoning their homes for fear of another assault. The incident is the latest in a series of deadly attacks plaguing the North-West region, where bandits have continued to unleash mayhem on residents, killing and abducting people for ransom.

The tragic event in Yauri comes just days after a similar attack in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, where bandits abducted dozens of recently returned internally displaced persons and rustled livestock. Residents in that area had reportedly alerted authorities of an impending threat but received no adequate protection. In Kebbi State, the attack follows a pattern of escalating violence, with bandits frequently targeting rural communities. Just weeks ago, suspected bandits abducted the wife and son of the APC Chairman in Yauri LGA. The recurring assaults have raised serious questions about the government's ability to secure the region and protect its citizens.

The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grip of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents, killing some and abducting others for ransom. As the nation mourns the loss of Alhaji Nasiru Muhammed, the question remains: how many more lives must be lost before Nigeria's banditry crisis is treated with the urgency it demands?
