Troops of the Nigerian Army have dislodged terrorist elements from their hideouts in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, recovering a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and mobility assets during a clearance operation conducted on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The operation, carried out by troops of the COAS Special Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, was part of sustained military offensives aimed at clearing terrorist enclaves and restoring security to communities across the North-West.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, September 6, 2026, by the spokesman of Sector 2, 8 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the troops advanced through identified terrorist threat areas, including Manu, Alkasim, and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya Forest axis. Upon making contact with the terrorists within the Magarya forest enclave, the troops engaged them with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.

Following the engagement, troops conducted follow-up operations and a thorough search of the area, leading to the recovery of a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, and a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition. Several motorcycles and assorted logistical and miscellaneous items believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists were also recovered. The motorcycles are believed to have been used by the group to navigate the difficult forest terrain and access remote settlements.

The military said the recovery of the weapons and ammunition would further degrade the terrorists' operational capability in the area. The troops have maintained a strong operational presence and continue to dominate the general area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping and to safeguard surrounding communities. The development comes amid intensified military operations across the North-West to deny armed groups the capacity to attack communities and abduct civilians. The military authorities also warned terrorists and their collaborators still operating in the area to abandon their activities, stressing that troops would continue to pursue them and dismantle their operational networks.
