A new chapter in emergency medical services is unfolding in Plateau State as the Plateau State Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (PLASEMSAS) formalizes a strategic partnership with the Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (PLASCHEMA).

The collaboration was officially highlighted during a courtesy visit to the PLASCHEMA headquarters on August 27, 2025. The Director General of PLASCHEMA, Dr. Solomon Dawal Kwande, alongside his management team, welcomed the PLASEMSAS delegation led by its Coordinator, Dr. Abel Izang. The visiting team included the Director of Operations and ICT, Dr. Bapigaan Williams, Chief Ambulance Dispatcher, Nurse Tobias Agyo, and Accountant, Mrs. Kaneng Dung Rwang.

During the meeting, Dr. Izang unveiled plans for PLASEMSAS to commence operations using state-provided ambulances stationed at key health facilities, including Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Hospital Management Board, OLA Hospital, Bingham Hospital, and Dadin Kowa Comprehensive Healthcare Centre. He further revealed an innovative initiative aimed at deploying tricycle ambulances to improve emergency response in rural areas. He appealed to PLASCHEMA for support in driving public awareness and training to ensure the program’s success.

Responding, Dr. Kwande commended PLASEMSAS for its proactive steps, noting that the introduction of the emergency ambulance system represents a landmark advancement in Plateau’s healthcare delivery. He lauded Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang for his commitment to providing ambulances across the state, describing the effort as vital in building a reliable and trusted emergency response system.

Highlighting the critical role of ambulance services in public health, the PLASCHEMA Director General emphasized that efficient deployment and accessibility would help restore citizens’ trust in emergency care and erase long-standing doubts about ambulance availability. He assured the delegation of PLASCHEMA’s readiness to collaborate, particularly through robust public awareness campaigns and broadcast media engagements.

Dr. Kwande also reiterated that PLASCHEMA, PLASEMSAS, and the Plateau State Ministry of Health would continue to work in synergy to ensure the sustainability and success of the initiative. He concluded by expressing gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for his leadership and acknowledging the contributions of past administrations in laying a strong foundation for progress.

This partnership is expected to revolutionize Plateau State’s emergency medical response system, making it more accessible, timely, and effective for citizens across both urban and rural communities.
