Kebbi NASS Caucus Demands Probe, Possible Arrest of Former AGF Abubakar Malami

The Kebbi State National Assembly Caucus has called for the arrest and prosecution of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, over alleged disturbances during his recent visit to Birnin Kebbi.

The caucus, led by Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), said Malami’s conduct amounted to a breach of public peace. Their position follows a petition authored by Malami on September 10, 2025, in which he accused Governor Nasir Idris and other political actors of importing political thugs, mercenaries, and arms into the state.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Senator Aliero dismissed Malami’s claims as baseless, politically motivated, and designed to discredit the current administration.

According to the caucus, during Malami’s condolence visit to Birnin Kebbi, he allegedly mobilized thugs from Sokoto, Koko, and Rara, who attacked the APC State Secretariat, chanted “One term” against Governor Idris, and clashed with party supporters.

Senator Garuba Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South) challenged Malami to provide evidence for his accusations, stressing that making such serious allegations without proof was reckless and unacceptable.

The caucus urged security agencies to investigate the matter transparently, arrest Malami if culpability is established, and prosecute anyone responsible for threatening peace in Kebbi State. They also reaffirmed their support for Governor Idris, describing APC as a peaceful party that has maintained stability under the current administration.

In their appeal to the public, the lawmakers called on citizens to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that security and peace remain the priority of both the state government and federal institutions.

The caucus emphasized that it would resist attempts to destabilize Kebbi politics with false claims and urged security agencies to focus on genuine threats rather than political distractions.
