Civil Society Group Petitions EFCC Over Alleged Illegal Land Grab at Kaduna Polytechnic

The Eagle Brain Human Rights Organization (EBHRO) has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), urging an immediate investigation into what it described as a massive conspiracy to illegally acquire land belonging to the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, Television Campus.

In the petition dated September 17, 2025, and addressed to the EFCC Chairman through the Kaduna Zonal Commander, the group alleged that senior political figures, government officials, and a traditional ruler were behind a scheme to take over more than 80 percent of the institution’s land. EBHRO warned that if the matter is not urgently addressed, the development could displace the federal institution, destabilize host communities, and convert public educational land into private property.

The organization specifically accused the Esu Chikun, His Royal Highness Ishaku Yari, of being at the center of the new land agreement, while also linking the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman Dahiru, and the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Suleiman Umar, to alleged collusion in the deal. It further alleged that the Director-General of the Kaduna State Geographic Information Service, Dr. Bashir Garba Ibrahim, issued a Certificate of Occupancy on the disputed land, while the Managing Director of the Kaduna State Development and Property Company, Alhaji Abubakar Rabiu, was connected to its acquisition and development.

EBHRO argued that the actions, if proven, would amount to criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, economic sabotage, and fraudulent conversion of public assets. The group demanded that the EFCC summon all those named, trace related financial transactions, and place a suspension on all ongoing construction at the site pending the outcome of investigations.

Comrade Daniel Ejembi, Chief Executive of the organization, who signed the petition, described the alleged land grab as a serious assault on Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts and a direct attack on the integrity of public institutions. He urged the EFCC to ensure justice is served and to send a clear deterrent message to those seeking to exploit public property for private gain.

Copies of the petition were also forwarded to the EFCC National Chairman, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Minister of Education, the Department of State Services, and the Inspector-General of Police.
