Governor Dapo Abiodun has called on Chinese investors to deepen their participation in Ogun State’s mining, agriculture, and industrial sectors, describing the state as Nigeria’s “investment gateway.”
Speaking during a high-level engagement with the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, Governor Abiodun highlighted Ogun’s vast endowments in gold, limestone, granite, and other minerals, as well as its leading role in cement, cassava, poultry, and fish production.
He stressed that Ogun’s fertile land, skilled workforce, and strong educational base provide an unmatched advantage for businesses seeking growth in Nigeria.
“Our administration has continued to create an enabling environment through public-private partnerships and major infrastructural projects, including a newly licensed international airport, a dry port, plans for a deep seaport, and modern transport links connecting Lagos and Ogun,” the governor said.
Governor Abiodun also confirmed his acceptance of an invitation to Shandong Province, China, where he will showcase Ogun’s opportunities and strengthen economic ties.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yu Dunhai praised Ogun’s investor-friendly climate, revealing that over 160 Chinese companies currently operate in the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone, with combined investments exceeding $1 billion. He added that another 100 firms are expected to join soon, further boosting trade and industrial growth.
Ambassador Yu, however, cautioned against illegal mining activities, urging Chinese nationals and all investors to operate strictly within Nigerian laws.
Supporting this, Hajia Hafsat Balewa, Chairman of the Free Trade Zone, noted that Chinese investments have significantly boosted both Ogun State’s and Nigeria’s GDP, strengthening the long-standing partnership between both countries.
