The Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, on Wednesday, received a high-powered delegation from the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) led by its National Coordinator, Engr. Aminu Mohammed Bodinga, alongside development partners from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) headed by Mr. Ahmad Atik, Lead Global Transport Specialist.
The visit was aimed at assessing Niger State’s preparedness for the project’s takeoff and evaluating the capacity of the State Project Implementation Unit. RAAMP is a strategic intervention programme designed to rehabilitate rural roads, provide market infrastructure, and improve access to water and healthcare facilities—initiatives expected to boost agricultural marketing and enhance rural livelihoods.
Engr. Bodinga reaffirmed the Federal Project Management Unit’s commitment to working with Niger State, noting several priority projects being implemented under RAAMP to accelerate rural development.
On his part, Mr. Ahmad Atik described the Islamic Development Bank as a strategic partner for Nigeria, highlighting the Bank’s interventions in poverty reduction, humanitarian aid, climate change adaptation, agriculture, infrastructure, and education. He stressed IsDB’s support for Niger State in strengthening resilience and promoting inclusive economic growth through rural infrastructure and agricultural investments.
In response, the SSG, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, conveyed the State Government’s appreciation, assuring that Niger State is fully committed to the project.
“On behalf of His Excellency, Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, I assure you that Niger State is prepared for the takeoff of this project. Our administration attaches the highest priority to rural roads, market access, and social infrastructure because they are key to unlocking the vast agricultural potential of our State,” he stated.
He added that the collaboration aligns with Governor Bago’s vision to transform Niger State into Nigeria’s food basket through heavy investment in agriculture, rural infrastructure, and human capital development.
The visit represents a major step in deepening Niger State’s partnership with international development partners, reinforcing the government’s agenda of agricultural transformation, rural development, and sustainable economic growth.
