Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, has officially inaugurated the Governing Boards and Management Teams of three Development Commissions—South South, South West, and North Central—under the supervision of the Ministry. The ceremony, held at the Rotunda Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, marks a strategic step towards advancing regional development in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In his address, Minister Momoh urged the newly inaugurated officials to diligently execute their mandates, ensuring that policies and programmes under their purview align with the key priorities of the administration, including economic reforms, national security, agriculture, energy, infrastructure development, education, health, and social welfare. He emphasised that the attainment of the Ministry’s Presidential Deliverables hinges on their performance and announced plans to secure a Performance Bond from the officials to reinforce their commitment to these targets.
“The inauguration signals hope to millions of people across these regions. Your role isn’t just about distributing funds or managing projects; it’s about rebuilding trust in governance, delivering tangible results, and ensuring inclusiveness and accountability,” Minister Momoh stated. He further urged collaboration with state governments, private sector players, and other stakeholders to drive impactful initiatives that foster equitable growth and sustainable development.
Earlier, Honourable Minister of State, Ministry of Regional Development, H.E. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, highlighted that the establishment of these Commissions goes beyond administrative formalities. He described the initiative as a strategic move by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address developmental gaps, harness regional strengths, and create growth opportunities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. He noted that the Commissions are positioned to catalyze infrastructure renewal, social empowerment, and economic diversification while promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mary Ada Ogbe, expressed gratitude to the President for his visionary leadership and underscored the significance of the Renewed Hope Agenda in driving socio-economic prosperity. She highlighted that the inauguration formalizes the operational handover to the three Development Commissions, complementing the ongoing work of other regional bodies, including NDDC, NEDC, SEDC, and NWDC.
In a vote of thanks, representatives of the National Assembly, including Honourable Tajudeen Abbas and Honourable Felix Uche Nwaeke, reminded the boards and management teams to exercise prudence, avoid awarding unnecessary contracts, and prioritize projects that directly benefit ordinary Nigerians.
All appointees expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the opportunity to serve, pledging unwavering commitment to fulfilling their mandates. Other dignitaries in attendance included representatives of the governors of Nasarawa and Plateau States, Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Iman Ibrahim, and other notable officials.
