ABUJA, Nigeria — Following presentations on Nigeria’s macroeconomic updates, including insights from Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, delegates from MIKTA countries—Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Türkiye, and Australia—held a session at the 31st Nigerian Economic Summit (#NES31) to discuss shared experiences in economic transformation.

A key takeaway from the discussion was the role of regional and global economic integration as a catalyst for growth. Representatives highlighted the benefits of free trade agreements in opening new opportunities for resource sectors and e-commerce, with Australia emphasizing lessons from its global trade network.

“Australia and Nigeria share burgeoning tech sectors. Predictable, transparent, and inclusive global digital trade rules are critical for fostering innovation,” the Australian High Commissioner said.

The session also spotlighted the AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol, which offers significant opportunities for Nigeria’s technology sector, while encouraging Nigeria to participate in the Joint Statement Initiative on E-Commerce at the World Trade Organization, co-sponsored by 71 countries.

This engagement underscores Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging global partnerships and digital trade frameworks to accelerate economic growth and enhance its position in the international digital economy.
