The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), Mrs. Nkechi Jane Egerton-Idehen, on Friday, August 15, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, at the Naval Headquarters, Abuja.
During the meeting, Mrs. Egerton-Idehen commended the Nigerian Navy for its outstanding efforts in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain. She noted with pride that, owing to the Navy’s robust surveillance and rapid-response initiatives, Nigeria has recorded zero piracy incidents in its waters since 2022.
The NIGCOMSAT boss further highlighted potential areas of partnership with the Navy, particularly in satellite services that could enhance naval operations.
In his response, Vice Admiral Ogalla expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged the critical role of satellite technology in naval operations, including navigation, communications, mapping, and hydrography. He emphasised that strengthened collaboration with NIGCOMSAT would reduce the Navy’s reliance on foreign satellite service providers.
This engagement signals a new frontier for home-grown satellite technology in supporting Nigeria’s maritime security and advancing national defense capabilities.
