The Lagos State Government has successfully trained a new cohort of Artificial Intelligence (AI) professionals, with its social media officers earning international certification as Certified Artificial Intelligence Professionals (CAIP) following a two-day intensive programme.

The training, held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa-Ikeja, was designed to equip participants with advanced skills in AI-powered communication, content creation, and data analytics, certified by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).

Dr. Olajide Atansuyi, Director of the Social Media Department, Ministry of Information and Strategy, emphasized that the initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of a “Smarter Lagos,” aimed at leveraging technology to enhance citizen engagement, streamline information dissemination, and improve service delivery.

“The newly certified professionals are expected to apply AI solutions across government platforms to boost efficiency, public engagement, and transparency,” Dr. Atansuyi said.

The training, conducted by Digital Academy, focused on AI ethics, machine learning for communication, natural language processing for content creation, and AI-powered analytics to monitor and improve online engagement. Participants were provided with hands-on, practical experience to immediately apply their skills in daily work.

Dr. Achi Celestine, Team Lead at Digital Academy, praised the Lagos State Government for its forward-thinking approach, describing the initiative as a benchmark for digital governance in Nigeria and across Africa.

Participants also expressed excitement about the programme’s impact. Francis Obafemi-Ajayi, Deputy Director of the Social Media Department, said the training would strengthen interactions between government and citizens, while Assistant Chief Public Affairs Officer, Ayo Afuwape, described it as a “game changer” in content creation and audience engagement.

The certification is part of Lagos State’s broader effort to position itself as a digital hub of Africa, fostering a culture of innovation, professionalism, and technology-driven governance.
