Deji Adeyanju, Esq., has strongly condemned the Department of State Services (DSS) for targeting the X (formerly Twitter) account of Omoyele Sowore, describing the action as an attack on freedom of expression and democratic principles.
In a statement, Adeyanju emphasized that every citizen has the right to freely express opinions, even when those views diverge from government positions. He described the use of state power to silence or intimidate individuals as unacceptable and undemocratic.
Highlighting Sowore’s long-standing activism, Adeyanju noted that the former presidential candidate has consistently spoken out on governance issues despite facing persecution from intolerant governments. Adeyanju stressed that Sowore’s critiques of the president and government policies must be respected, regardless of how uncomfortable they may be for those in authority.
The condemnation reflects broader concerns over the protection of civil liberties and free speech in Nigeria, particularly for voices critical of government actions.
