The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has affirmed the prompt and decisive intervention of its operatives, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), following two serious road traffic accidents caused by excessive speed and hazardous conditions from continuous rainfall.

The first incident involved a lone Ford vehicle (registration APP 413 YH) on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road near Kofo Abayomi Junction, Victoria Island. Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver, unrestrained by a seatbelt, lost control on the rain-slicked road, resulting in a violent collision that left him critically unconscious. LASTMA officers immediately alerted LASAMBUS personnel, who resuscitated the victim on-site and transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent care. Bar Beach Divisional Police officers provided security during the rescue operation.

In a separate accident at Volks, inward Abule-Ado, a multiple-vehicle collision occurred between a Coaster bus (NCA 118 XB) and a Mini bus (FKJ 118 XB). Investigations revealed that the coaster bus, traveling at high speed on the slippery highway, lost control in heavy rain and collided with the mini bus. LASTMA, working alongside medical responders, extricated two seriously injured male victims and ensured their immediate transfer to GMC Hospital, Ilaje, Abule-Ado. Security personnel from the Ojo Divisional Police Command provided additional support.

General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season, emphasizing the importance of moderating speed and maintaining control on slippery roads. He also extended best wishes for the swift recovery of all accident victims.

The incidents underscore the continued risks posed by adverse weather conditions and reckless driving in Lagos. Authorities stress that proactive enforcement, timely medical response, and public awareness remain critical in safeguarding lives and ensuring smooth traffic flow across the state.
