ATIKU SLAMS LIFTING OF RIVERS STATE EMERGENCY, CALLS IT “DICTATORSHIP”

Published on 18 September 2025 at 11:26

Former Vice President and presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the lifting of the six-month state of emergency in Rivers State, describing the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly as unconstitutional and illegal.

In a statement, Atiku argued that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had no authority to suspend a democratically elected governor and state lawmakers, insisting that the exercise only highlighted what he described as the “dictatorship” of the current administration.

“Atiku Abubakar maintains that the Rivers shenanigans are a signpost of authoritarian tendencies in the Tinubu administration,” the statement added.
