Former President Goodluck E. Jonathan has urged Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s journey of 65 years of independence, highlighting both the challenges faced and the opportunities that lie ahead for a prosperous future.

In his Independence Day message, Jonathan emphasized that while the country continues to grapple with insecurity, economic disparities, and institutional challenges, Nigerians must maintain hope and faith in the nation’s potential. He noted that the resilience, ingenuity, and creativity of the Nigerian people remain central to overcoming obstacles and achieving national development.

“As citizens, we must not lose faith. We must continue to nurture hope and sustain belief in the nation’s enormous potential and the resilience of the people,” Jonathan said.

The former President described Nigeria as a blessed nation, endowed with vast land, abundant natural resources, and a culturally rich population whose knowledge and wisdom continue to make a global impact. He urged citizens to appreciate these blessings while striving collectively toward nation-building and shared progress.

Jonathan also encouraged patriotism as a guiding principle, stressing that unity and optimism are key to realizing the country’s potential. He highlighted that, despite the difficulties encountered over the decades, Nigerians have demonstrated an enduring spirit of perseverance and innovation across various sectors, from education and technology to arts, business, and governance.

“Our cultural richness, our knowledge, and our wisdom have continued to distinguish Nigerians across every sphere of human endeavor, both at home and abroad,” he noted.

Looking forward, the former President called on all Nigerians to work together with renewed commitment, putting the nation’s interests above personal and sectional considerations. He underscored the importance of faith, unity, and constructive engagement as the foundation for achieving sustainable development, peace, and social cohesion.

“As we look to the future, let patriotism guide our actions. Let us hold firmly to optimism and faith, knowing that the greatness of our country is within reach if we remain united and steadfast,” Jonathan said.

Concluding his message, the former President expressed his hopes for a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria, urging citizens to continue striving for collective growth and development.

“May our nation continue to rise in strength and purpose,” he added, extending warm wishes to all Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

Jonathan’s message serves as a reminder of the enduring need for unity, hope, and patriotism as Nigeria continues to navigate challenges and seize opportunities for national progress.
