In a determined move to maintain peace and security ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State, the State Police Command has apprehended a notorious suspected cultist and political thug identified as Onyeaka Odogwu, popularly known as Red Angel, aged 29.
The arrest, made on October 24, 2025, at about 11:30 a.m., followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) in Enugwu Ukwu.
During the raid, police recovered two pump-action rifles, two English-made double-barrel guns, three live cartridges, and several cult-related items, including red cloths, regalia, and caps marked with the insignia of the Vikings Confraternity.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect confessed during interrogation to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity and also admitted involvement in political thuggery.
Ikenga revealed that, in the early hours of October 26, 2025, Odogwu led SPACS operatives to an armoury located at Omor, where the cache of weapons and cult paraphernalia were recovered.
“All the recovered exhibits have been properly documented as evidence,” Ikenga said, adding that further investigations are underway to track down other gang members and associates mentioned by the suspect.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and credible electoral process in Anambra State. He warned that the police would not tolerate any activities by cult groups, armed gangs, or political thugs aimed at destabilizing the state.
The Commissioner also appealed to parents, community leaders, and youth groups to discourage young people from engaging in cultism or political violence, assuring residents of enhanced security deployment across all local government areas ahead of the polls.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
