Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has sparked widespread debate after declaring that he feels “sorry for men with one wife,” while strongly defending his belief in polygamy as a source of balance and stability for men.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, the businessman and politician asserted that managing multiple wives provides emotional equilibrium and prevents marital strain.
“That is a different topic for discussion on another day. Yes, every man should do that. The example I give is this: just imagine telling you to stand on one foot or leg. You know how difficult it is.
But to stand on two, three, four is much more balanced. That’s just the example I give. So I feel sorry for those who have one wife because it’s difficult to stand on one leg,” Nwoko said.
When asked about religious opposition to polygamy, the senator insisted that the Old Testament supports the practice.
“The Old Testament does. I am a man of faith. But that’s not what we are here for,” he replied.
Nwoko, who is married to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels and three other women, also used the interview to refute allegations of domestic violence.
“No, come on. You know I am not a violent person. I respect my wives. I love them and my kids,” he said firmly.
When pressed about any regrets regarding his marital choices, the senator maintained his stance with confidence.
“No, I don’t have any regret. I will do the same thing again. Of course, that’s the way it should be. You should marry who you want to marry,” he concluded.
Senator Nwoko’s comments have since fueled conversations on social media and in public discourse, highlighting Nigeria’s ongoing debate over traditional, religious, and modern views on marriage and family structures.
