Omoyele Sowore has sounded the alarm over Nigeria’s persistent failure to protect its citizens, highlighting the widespread insecurity affecting vulnerable populations including Christians, Muslims, traditional believers, children, women, students, workers, and the elderly.
In his statement, Sowore noted that Christian communities in Benue, Plateau, Gombe, and Kaduna continue to face frequent attacks, while Muslim populations in Katsina, Zamfara, Borno, and Yobe remain threatened by marauding killers. Millions of Nigerians across the country are also grappling with hunger, poverty, and displacement, calling for safety and dignity.
He emphasized that while international attention or special designations may provide temporary relief, the ultimate solution rests within Nigeria’s leadership. Sowore urged the need for honest, courageous, and accountable leaders who prioritize human life and justice above political expediency.
“No foreign power can fix what corrupt and careless leaders have broken from within. Our redemption will come from visionary, accountable, and people-centered leadership, one that protects its citizens, unites its people, and rebuilds the nation from the ground up,” the statement read.
Experts stress that sustainable change requires leadership committed to safeguarding citizens, fostering unity, and implementing reforms to address corruption, insecurity, and social inequality.
