Prominent Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore has sharply criticized recent statements by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, who threatened military intervention in Nigeria under the pretext of protecting Christians. Sowore warned that such rhetoric is dangerous and misleading, emphasizing that foreign intervention rarely brings stability to nations.
Speaking on social media and to local media outlets, Sowore stressed that whether citizens are Christian, Muslim, animist, or non-religious, no one should welcome threats of military action. He highlighted historical examples where U.S.-led interventions in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria failed to secure lasting peace, instead leaving nations more unstable.
Sowore argued that Nigeria’s real solution lies in accountable, domestic leadership that protects all citizens, upholds justice, and ends cycles of corruption and violence. He further criticized the notion that salvation for Nigerians can come from abroad, pointing out that deliverance must come from within through genuine leadership and national renewal.
“The United States does not care about Nigerians—Christian, Muslim, or anyone else. Our deliverance will never come from abroad; it must come from within,” Sowore said, in reference to Nigeria’s current political leadership, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Observers note that Sowore’s comments underscore growing public concern about the implications of foreign threats and highlight the urgent need for Nigeria to focus on internal solutions to insecurity, governance challenges, and national development.
