The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has declared the Village Head of Ine Eyoabasi Fishing Village wanted after uncovering his alleged involvement in a militant and piracy network operating across the state’s coastal areas. Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, made the announcement during a press briefing at the State Headquarters, Uyo, highlighting major security breakthroughs in recent weeks. CP Azare explained that on November 3, 2025, the Command, working in collaboration with Marine Hunters, arrested Samuel Geofrey, a suspected militant from Bayelsa State. During interrogation, Geofrey revealed that his rifle was being kept by the Village Head, who fled upon sighting police operatives. A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of multiple items reportedly stolen from sea travelers, including marine engines, power heads, gearboxes, generators, a deep freezer, household appliances, and personal belongings linked to an individual from Onitsha, Anambra State. While Geofrey remains in custody, CP Azare assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing Village Head, emphasizing that no criminal, regardless of status, would escape justice. He described the operation as a demonstration of the police’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks from the creeks of Mbo to the heart of Uyo and reiterated that all suspects would be pursued until brought to justice. The Commissioner further detailed additional successes, noting that illegal firearms production operations had been neutralized, suspected thieves and cult leaders apprehended, and ammunition recovered through intelligence-led efforts. CP Azare commended the professionalism and dedication of the Command’s operatives and expressed gratitude to residents for their continued support, urging anyone whose properties had been stolen to report to the police for possible recovery. He concluded by reaffirming the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and inter-agency collaboration, stressing that criminal activities would no longer find safe havens in Akwa Ibom, and that the fight against crime requires the continued cooperation of all citizens.
