Popular Nigerian rapper Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, widely known as Zlatan Ibile, has openly criticized the Nigerian government for failing to address the country’s deepening economic hardship.
Speaking in an interview with Madame Joyce in the United Kingdom, Zlatan—renowned for his street-inspired sound and hit single “Zanku (Leg Work)”—lamented that hardship has become a normal part of daily life in Nigeria.
“We are used to it—suffering and smiling. That’s how it has always been, and the government isn’t doing anything about it,” he said.
Reacting to a remark by British rapper Dave, who mocked Nigeria’s flashy nightlife scene where lavish spenders coexist with beggars outside clubs, Zlatan described the contrast as a reflection of growing inequality and social neglect.
While criticizing the government’s inaction, he also urged Nigerians, particularly street beggars, to seek productive and meaningful ventures rather than relying solely on alms for survival.
The rapper emphasized that personal effort, creativity, and self-empowerment are essential to overcoming poverty and building a better future—especially in an environment where government support remains minimal.
Zlatan, a consistent voice for the youth through his music, noted that societal change must begin with both leadership accountability and individual responsibility.
